Introduction:

This short activity is designed to help you identify specific fears or challenges you might have with technology. By understanding what’s holding you back, you can take the first steps toward overcoming these barriers and building confidence. Use this worksheet alone or with a friend or family member for support.

Step 1: Reflect on Your Experience
Take a moment to think about your relationship with technology. Answer the questions below as honestly as possible:

  1. How do you feel when using a new device or app (e.g., nervous, curious, frustrated)?
  2. What is the biggest challenge you face with technology (e.g., fear of breaking it, difficulty understanding it)?
  3. Have you had a positive experience with technology before? What was it?
  4. What would you like to accomplish with technology (e.g., staying in touch with family, learning a new skill)?

Step 2: Identify Your Fears or Challenges
Below is a list of common fears or obstacles people experience with technology. Check all that apply to you:

  • I’m afraid of breaking or damaging the device.
  • I don’t understand how to use it.
  • I’m worried about online safety and scams.
  • I feel overwhelmed by the number of features or apps.
  • I don’t think I’ll ever get the hang of it.

Step 3: Take Action
Choose one fear or challenge from the list above. Then, write down one small, achievable action you can take to address it. For example:

Challenge: “I’m worried about online safety.”
Action:
“I will learn how to create a strong password and identify phishing emails.”

Your Challenge: ____________________________________________________
Your Action: ______________________________________________________

Step 4: Reflect and Celebrate
Once you’ve completed your action, take a moment to reflect on the experience:

  1. How did it feel to take this step?
  2. Did it help reduce your fear? Why or why not?
  3. What will you try next?

Celebrate your progress, no matter how small! Every step forward is a win.
